Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at the Salute to Freedom Gala

Meghan and Harry stepped out onto a high-glam red carpet as yet another cloud of press stories follows them and we’re kind of impressed how unbothered they appear by it all. They’re getting better at keeping it off their faces when they’re in public; which is kind of funny, because Harry should have mastered that skill about 30 years ago but never quite did. He’s like his mother that way. Anyway, we ran down some of what’s swirling around them in yesterday’s post on her Dealbook appearance, but it’s come out since that because of their litigiousness, she’s been more or less forced to admit that she composed that letter to her father with public release in mind and that there was at least some cooperation on her part with Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie. They need to stick to broader condemnations of misinformation, online abuse, and tabloid culture. Waging a focused war on the press rarely goes well for royal family members and these two just aren’t slick enough to come out of it untouched.

Now moving on to the world of fashion…

We don’t like the dress, sorry to say. The color looks spectacular on her and we assume that’s why it remains her go-to color when she wants to make an impression. But we really don’t like that neckline or the strap placement at all. The train is too full and it looks tacked on. The darts in the bust are distracting and we don’t think the belt does any good. It’s a miss for us. He looks fine, but he should be wearing an undershirt and his jacket should be buttoned.
