Red Carpet Rundown: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Los Angeles Premiere

If you ask us – and you really should – the only way to approach a big budget Masters of The Universe premiere is to show up in killer looks, from head to toe, across the board. There should be a castwide style brief: Don’t you dare slack off on this one. Because here’s what: despite the smiles and the sound bites, no one here actually wants to be in a Masters of the Universe movie — or at the very least, they’re planning on not having it wind up as a career highlight. But once you commit to a film like this, you have to sell the hell out of that commitment. That doesn’t mean haute couture and it doesn’t mean cosplay (of which there’s none here, thankfully). It just means to dress like you mean it. Looks to us like most of these folks got the memo.

NICHOLAS GALITZINE

Sharp and impeccable. Not exactly a summer suit and perhaps a little more buttoned-up than he needs to be, but he looks good.

ALISON BRIE IN IRIS VAN HERPEN

Love to see her in a van Herpen and we’re not remotely surprised she picked one that came with a miniskirt. We suppose this fits with the fantasy vibe, but it doesn’t feel like cosplay to us, or even like theme-dressing. It’s not our favorite IvH design, but we love the slight weirdness.

IDRIS ELBA IN LOUIS VUITTON

This is him dressed up. It still feels a little too casual for us, but we can tell these are all nice pieces.

MORENA BACCARIN

Can’t go wrong with a classic Jean Harlow gown. The earrings were probably enough in the way of jewelry, but unfortunately her hairstyle is obscuring them.

SASHEER ZAMATA

This is so fun and sharp.

CAMILA MENDES IN CONG TRI

We hate the scarf — not just for existing but for the dumb way it was arranged for pictures. The dress is great, though.
