George Clooney came to the Chaplin Awards Gala Honoring George Clooney because what else are you going to do? Skip it? Still, it’s kind of weird to do this right after his last film, which was entirely about skewering these sorts of lifetime achievement galas for actors. Anyway, we’re not here to talk about him, of course. The tux is very nice, as always, but all of the interest lies in what his accomplished wife Amal brought to the proceedings.

She brought legs. We’re sure she’s worn them before, but we can’t recall ever seeing her in a mini-skirt. Incidentally, after too many seasons of tea-length skirts, we have a feeling that the mini is about to have a moment again. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll be combined with the current trend for sheer tights, just to give it that totally ’80s feel. Ms. Clooney has not opted to go that route, which is good, because hosiery would not have improved this. It looks great on her. We love the color and the silhouette, with it’s blousy top and A-line bottom. The only thing we hate is the train, because we always think they look dumb with minis. The gold accessories look great. If she wants to kill the trends for dowdy skirts and black pumps, we’re all for it.
