Meghan and Harry have themselves the royal version of a date night and the Duchess opted for an unusually high-profile dress.
Hmm.
On the one hand, it’s bold and eye-catching and a little glam. Those are good things, as far as we’re concerned. The Duchess’ style approach this past year has been a bit too much “receding into the background” in tone. We wouldn’t suggest she should always break out the beading and graphics for every occasion, but we’ve said before she’s got a special connection with performers. No member of the BRF can identify with them or speak to them the way she can. If she wants to stick to navy blue or dark green dresses with few design features for most of her royal work, we suppose we’d accept it over time (not really), but we sincerely hope she continues to do a little style-based spotlight-grabbing whenever she’s meeting performers or theater folk. They’re her people and she should indulge in that.
Having said that, we question the shape of that top in combination with the heavy beading and the addition of a sash and straps. The latter two do nothing good for it and the shape is only so-so for her current shape.
