Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been making some notably public rounds in New York, well ahead of their reported July wedding date. Let’s unpack a few things about their choices, shall we? Some of them will even be kind!
AT OR’ESH RESTAURANT

They were in town for a friend’s wedding, but because they’re both extremely aware of how their actions will be covered, they dressed with the expectation of being photographed and these two don’t do that without branding coming into the equation. They’re at that level of fame and press interest where every public appearance and interaction will be dissected and she is especially well-prepared for that level of scrutiny. We long ago ceded any right to opine on whatever hidden messages she’s sending to her fans by her style choices and we can’t say that sort of thing ever really interested us, except to note that she is a celebrity who utilizes fashion at a high level of understanding, in terms of imagecraft. One thing about this relationship, especially in relation to almost all of her other ones, is how neatly it slots into a simplistic “cheerleader and quarterback” college dating trope. We don’t think she’s been all that shy about alluding to that comparison and we think their public casual wear, while not necessarily the kind of thing you’d see Zoomers wearing in 2026, still has a a sort of “mid-thirties holding onto youth” vibe to it. That sounds like a nasty read, but here’s our point: this is perfectly in line with their – especially her – understanding of how fashion works. She is a pop star. He is a sports star. Their youth keeps them relevant in their current positions, but her status as a literal Millennial icon is not something she takes lightly. Playing up the “cheerleader and jock in their late thirties on date night” vibe is not accidental. Because here’s the other thing:
AT HONEY’S COCKTAIL BAR

They are not only perfectly capable of dressing in sophisticated, grownup styles, there’s every indication that they both prefer it over the date-night cosplay. Or maybe we’re just responding to the fact that they look amazing here while their previous outfits were kind of insipid and silly. And yes, of course we have to mention that she’s wearing jewelry once owned by Elizabeth Taylor, sold at auction, presumably to Travis, although it’s not as if she couldn’t snag it for herself. We suppose you can read a million different messages into that or most of their other style choices, but we’d rather just make some occasionally blunt observations about their style.
