Oscars 2022 Countdown: Kristen Stewart-ology

Posted on March 24, 2022

Continuing our longstanding pre-Oscars “ology” post tradition, it’s time to dive deep into the recent style history of Best Actress nominee Kristen Stewart. By the way, when we saw the teaser trailer of Spencer and just knew it was going to be a buzz-worthy performance, Lorenzo said, “We’re going to be writing a Kristen Stewart-ology post next year, I bet.” As for the erstwhile princess’s red carpet style and what we can expect from it, scroll through everything she wore this season (as always, you can click on the captions for our original thoughts on each look) and see if you can guess which design house she’s most likely to wear on Oscar night. Go on! Guess!

At the Critics Choice Awards in Dolce & Gabbana

At the Producers Guild of America Awards in Brandon Maxwell

That’s right! She’s a Topshop girl, through and through! Obviously, the highest likelihood is that the longtime Chanel muse (and nearly constant Chanel wearer) will be wearing something from the House that Coco built. We’d be surprised if it wasn’t built into her contract with the brand. While she has worn other brands during awards season, it’s notable that she wore them near the end of the season and at events that aren’t necessarily considered Oscar prologues or Oscar adjacent. B List events, in other words. No, we think the Chanel’s a safe bet. The real question is whether she’s going to come as the classic Chanel princess or as the queer punk version she sometimes favors. She can turn on the conventional glam when she wants to, but we think she’ll also add a little edge to her look in some way. Classic Chanel with a twist.
