We said a while back that we weren’t going to cover the Princess every time she stepped out in a pantsuit. We might have let these shots go by without commenting on them, but red carpets are scarce at the moment and there’s every reason to believe we would have been accused of deliberately ignoring this appearance because it feeds into the idea among Meghan fans that Kate assiduously copies all of Meghan’s style choices. Since Megs spent most of last week reminding the world that she’s a gal who lives for neutrals, the normally colorfully attired Kate showing up in beige today is likely to fan the flames of that theory. We’ll repeat that we never bought it and don’t find it particularly likely. Kate is popular in Great Britain, the only place that really matters to her in terms of the public, and Meghan is extremely unpopular. There’s just no reason for her to be copying her sister-in-law; none that make any sense, anyway. And while it’s rare to see Kate in such toned-down neutrals, it’s not unheard of at all. Besides, the big news here is that Cathy’s wearing flares. It’s not the first time she’s worn them but they’re still rare in her wardrobe rotation and this pair has possibly the biggest flare she’s ever sported. She looks fine. We would have rec’d a black top instead of a white one.
