This year’s Cannes Film Festival may be light on American movie stars, to our disappointment, but one thing we’re not disappointed about is Ruth Negga serving on the jury, because it means we get treated to a lot of highly discussable Ruth Negga red carpet choices. She’s always been worth taking a look at because her tastes run toward the odd and even when she chooses a relatively reliably staid style, like a black lace gown, you can always bet on her being just a little weird in some way.
Like so. Those peplums are silly-looking to our eyes, not to mention they sit too high on her. We suppose the gown would be improved by their removal, but it would also wind up looking stale and a bit matronly. Those silly things are the only point of interest aside from the styling. That’s the area that almost has us thinking this look works. We love the severity of the hair, and how it plays against the silliness or staleness of the gown. We also love the earrings, which stand out so much, they feel like the true focal point of the look. So there you have it, kittens. Your points of discussion, as laid out by us.
