With the coronation of King Charles III less than a month away, the slightly streamlined British royal family (including Prince Andrew) put on their Sunday best and marked yet another occasion on the calendar without their former matriarch’s presence as they gathered at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle for Easter services. The Waleses and the King and Queen kept in extremely tight formation, sticking to a color story that practically screams “unified front.”

Everyone’s wearing the team colors, it would seem. Everyone who matters, anyway. We won’t deny that there’s something a little dreary about such rigid conformity among the Top Four, but then again, you have to consider that this is where fashion not only intersects with a historical institution and a segment of national identity, but with Charles’ role as the head of the church. They’re not dressing like normal people, especially at a time when they feel particularly aggrieved and affronted by internal drama. Everyone’s wearing exactly what you would expect them to. The only real item of note is Cathy’s bold red manicure. Family tradition or no, Louis’ short pants look silly. Charlotte’s dress and tights are very pretty, however. After decades of women like Elizabeth, Margaret, Anne and Diana representing female royal fashion, Camilla will be quite the step down. Sorry, but it had to be said. Her taste in hats is usually terrible and she doesn’t wear dresses, she wears vestments. Not a button, cuff or collar in this woman’s style.
