We gave a couple of the individual attendees the spotlight treatment, but it’s time to talk about the rest of the “I’m campaigning but also trying to look like I’m not campaigning” style choices among the other attendees of the Oscar Nominees Luncheon.
Annette Bening in Stella McCartney

It’s just too big. There’s nothing else to say about it.
Bradley Cooper

It’s giving “I’m not trying hard at all.” The pieces aren’t bad, but the askew collar and messy grooming come off extremely affected.
Carey Mulligan in Alaïa

The belt is the only interesting part.
Cillian Murphy

We’re not opposed to brown suits, but we think you have to work with them to make them not come across sad or dingy. He didn’t put in the work.
Colman Domingo in Givenchy

We hate the shirt; both the color and the cut of it.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph

It’s a lot for a luncheon but a lady’s got to take her moments where she can get them.
Emily Blunt in Zimmermann

The pants or the blouse, dear; never both. The colors and the textiles are slightly off from each other, which only makes it worse.
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton

This is very sharp. We hope her pants just need a little zhuzhing and that they’re not two different lengths, but this is LV, so nothing is assured.
Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish (in Vivienne Westwood)

He looks cute. Her look isn’t working for us because it feels so random and thrown together. The best thing about her public style is that it’s normally quite cohesive and thought out.
Greta Gerwig in Prada

Girl, you almost had us until we got to the shoes, but if we’re being honest, the manbelt and wristbows weren’t great either.
Jeffrey Wright

Low effort, but just barely luncheon appropriate. Not loving the shirt.
Margot Robbie in Chanel

Proof that she’s not completely done with the Barbiecore, although this isn’t in reference to any one Barbie. It’s cutesy and she looks very tired of it.
Mark Ruffalo

Respectable.
Paul Giamatti

Ditto, although it comes off more businesslike than it has to.
Robert Downey Jr. in Stella McCartney

As always, it’s okay until you get below the knees. His love of long hems and hideous kicks with massive wedge-heeled lifts in them always wind up ruining the line of whatever he’s wearing. As an added bonus, we also hate the racing stripe.
Ryan Gosling in Gucci

He’s doing (K)enough.
Sandra Hüller in Valentino Couture

This is a lot of look and the jacket quite clearly doesn’t go with the dress, which is honestly kind of ugly. That color combo is not good.
Sterling K. Brown

Lovely.
