Before we return to our final bits of Cannes gownery coverage, let’s assess the cocktail dresses and pantsuits (plus one gown) at the L’Oreal Lights on Women Award gala, shall we?

Miss Andie, we’re afraid this looks fantastic at the top and gets more and more disappointing as you scroll down. The hair looks amazing and the dress would be cute (if a little too simple) without that horrid fringe hem. The shoes are, we’re sorry to say, kind of ugly.

Monique Lhuillier offers some of the most basic dress designs you’ll find anywhere, but when she gets it right, she gets it right. This isn’t going to win any design awards, but it looks great. It’s just a little too snug in the bust.

Jane, this has never happened before. You have served up a scrolldown disappointment. The jacket’s great. The pants should’ve matched it.

We’re so thrilled to see her in something other than a mid-length body-con dress in black or navy blue that we almost can’t bring ourselves to quibble about any of this. But we will, of course. The cut of those pants should either be slimmer to maintain that length or they should be about an inch or two longer keeping it. Since wide-legged pants are trendier than a cigarette pant at the moment (of course that will swing back relatively soon), we think extra length was needed. We also think cuffing the sleeves was a mistake. Still, it’s nice to see her doing something unexpected on a red carpet.
