We still have a bit of Golden Globes-related red carpetry opinion-forming to do, but before we plunge into the high tension of the pre- and post-GG events, let’s all take a moment with Lupita, quietly moving on to the next phase of awards season.
The New York Film Critics’ Circle Awards is a dressy but not formal event. We say that because her styling here – purple eyeshadow aside – is somewhat uncharacteristically low key. The dress, however, is anything but. Lupita can work pretty much any color on the spectrum and has a special knack for the brightest and boldest hues, but between this dress and Charlize’s, we really hope these shades of brilliant green don’t become too trendy. Miss L (and her sister walking the runway below) aside, it’s a really hard color to make work, and as Charlize has already demonstrated, a lot of pale ladies who shouldn’t be anywhere near it are going to get talked into it. Leave it to the ladies who were born to wear it, we say. She looks fabulous. But we find ourselves wishing for one statement piece of gold jewelry.
