Perpetual busy lady Jennifer Lopez is out on the street, serving looks and promoting the hell out of her rom com Office Romance. It may please you to discover that she has taken our advice and toned down the style choices considerably. Let’s assess whether it worked for her. Spoiler: it did. Of course it did. Do you think T Lo would give J Lo bad advice?

To be fair, this is a lot for Watch What Happens Live and also kind of a lot for June in New York, but she looks legitimately pretty and kind of chic in this. We haven’t suddenly reversed our stance on tiered skirts, but we kind of like the play between the floatiness of the dress and the fitted structure of the jacket. Yes, it’s all a bit grandiose in that J Lo way that we think she should abandon, but it doesn’t feel overwrought or like she’s punishing herself, which is how so much of her style choices tend to come across.

Aughts style is really back, isn’t it? The lightweight sweater over a long satin skirt was a real go-to among the celebrity gal set from about 1998 to 2004 and went away just as we started doing red carpet commentary. Again, we could quibble with some parts of this, but there’s a breeziness to the style that looks good on her. She can still show the world that she’s a hottie but she doesn’t have to resort to outrageous or punishing fashion to do it. Lesson learned? We kind of doubt it, but we’ll see.
