Style File: “Men in Black: International” Star Tessa Thompson is a Lady in Black and White

Miss Tessa is clearly working her way through a style theme at the moment. In fact, these two looks are so similar in style and elements that we didn’t even realize they were two different looks at first. Maybe it wasn’t obvious with her big silver gown earlier this week, but she seems to be deliberately eschewing color with this promo tour, which is a subtle and smart way to tie into the film’s title. Having said that, she’ll probably prove us wrong by stepping out in something neon-colored tomorrow.

That is a whole hell of a lot of fashion for the Today show. We have to say, we think it’s a bit over-the-top for the venue. The outfit’s fabulous on her, but it absolutely doesn’t read daytime, let alone morning. She’s got a knack for working extreme silhouettes and an accompanying love of doing so. Most people couldn’t make those gigantic pants work, but they look chic on her. The puffy shoulders help balance it out. It’s a really sharp look that should be walking a red carpet, not on its way into a TV studio.

Um… ditto? Except we don’t really like this one all that much. The proportions on that top half are horrible and the “Look, I’m undoing my pants!” effect is just silly. We’ll give her this one. The whole point of being a risk-taker is that the risks don’t always pay off. Shake this one off, girl.
