You do this job long enough and you start to see these long-form style arcs. For the longest time, we could have told you exactly what to expect from a Lucy Liu red carpet look: simple classic elegance, neutral tones, and a lack of fuss – none of which were on display last night, to our pleasant surprise. Let’s hear it for a lady who knows how to avoid a style rut:
We are, admittedly, SUPER not-crazy about the bodice design, which gives her an unfortunate “bandaged” effect. But the color, sweep and overall drama are very welcome. We might have found this gown a bit too exuberant for her style, but that just shows how you can’t always predict which way someone’s gonna go on the red carpet. Especially when that someone is as innately stylish as Miss Lucy. It was a great idea to go big, loud and bold. We hope she leans into this more. There’s a lot of really fabulously obnoxious fashion out there at the moment and we’d love to see her sink her teeth into it all.
A word about the earrings. That word is FIERCE.
