Continuing our series studying the Oscar actress nominees and their awards season choices, let’s check in on Miss Melissa, who’s enjoying her first Best Actress nominee in a consistent, low-fuss style that she really seems to be loving right now.

This pretty much serves as a starting point of where her awards season style was going to go. Basically, she’d been opting for high-end bathrobes and wizard’s robes all through the season, but to our surprise, the style tended to work for her more often than not. We didn’t love this, but we do like how luxe it tends to look in pictures. There’s a low-key glamour to it, even if it does look like a bathrobe. Things evolved a bit over time, however.

The aforementioned wizard’s robes. It’s interesting, because standard advice for plus-sized women is to avoid a lot of volume, but she opted to embrace it in a somewhat unique way. And it mostly worked out really well for her. This is gorgeous.

At the SAG Awards in Iorane

We still don’t love the sleeves on this one – they feel unresolved as a design – but the sparkle, shape and style are all in line with her preferences and she looks pretty great.

She started getting a little sleeker with her choices, moving away from the robes and towards a more fitted silhouette.

The effect is a nicely polished at-the-top-of-her-game undertone, which not only looks great on her, but sends a pretty strong message. The likelihood of her winning is very slim and she’s sure to know that. What she’s doing now is dressing not to win, but to show how A-list she is. This is chic, sleek, confident look.
