The French fashion girlies are out at Cannes and all briefly feels right with the world. Some may claim that Cannes is about this or that, but for some of the time at least, the Cannes Film festival is all about icons of French cinema in cute skirts and chic gowns. It was ever thus.

The legend herself Catherine Deneuve joined her Gentle Monster co-star Léa Seydoux for a round of posing, starting with the photo call.

Simple and chic; the kind of look she can work with little effort. We’re surprised at how well she’s handling that buttery yellow. We think she could have broken out a more interesting and more comfortable footwear choice.

Can’t argue with a bit of that. We might not have suggested that top for it, but that’s a great skirt. Her hair looks very cute.

The skirt’s fine. We have no problem with the style of top, but this one’s kind of dreary, in color and shape. We’d have liked it without the bow, without the shine, and in a jewel tone. The earrings are gorgeous.

Pure stunning. We dislike the trend for those curly sorts of edges, but the minimalism of the design, the lack of color, and the very fine pleating all combine to deliver a very chic, slightly fussy, but still quite elegant look that comes off striking in photos. The jewelry is gorgeous.
