Queen Máxima of the Netherlands Visits Cleantech Park Arnhem

Queen Maxima is back on home soil after her tour of a sliver of America, which means the bright and bold colors have been retired briefly in exchange for some smart outerwear to brave the Dutch weather. Today, the queen visited Cleantech Park Arnhem, which houses more than 140 companies and institutions working on clean technologies. We like that her duties center around things like finance and energy, which play to her own educational and career background.

The cape is gorgeous, but we don’t think any of the other chosen items represent the best way to style it. For one, we wouldn’t have recommended a shirt in (roughly) the same shade. Her love of matchiness sometimes leaves her looking like a lump of one color. For public engagements, you need that contrast in order to stand out in pictures. The skirt is okay, but we’d have liked it to pick up the red in the cape. The boots are great, but we think they might be too heavy with the rest of the pieces. Love the earrings.
