The royal jewels are bright pink and the gown is strapless. That’s right, kittens. Queen Máxima had herself a formal tiara moment, and in typical Max style, it’s bright and flashy and not entirely concerned with things like propriety. The Queen and King Willem-Alexander hosted the Diplomatic Corps for gala dinner at the Royal Palace Amsterdam. She did not come quietly.

Oooh, girl. You really do go your own way, don’t you? On the one hand, we can’t help but admire a queen who doesn’t tend to get too caught up in whether she’s being appropriately regal at all times. After all, it can get awfully boring covering the style choices of the deathlessly appropriate Princess of Wales. But a shocking pink strapless gown with a satin wrap is almost hilariously un-queenly. Still, while she may be sporting the crown jewels of Europe, it’s good to remember that she’s a Latina who likes her style bright and bold. Personally, we think the dress is kind of ugly, what with the lace and the tiers and the questionable tone-on-tone. But the color story does look amazing on her, even if it is eye-searing. The The Ruby Peacock Tiara and parure are gorgeous, of course, and we feel a little silly saying this as commoners who will never breathe the air in the same room as them, but it’s kind of tacky to match your jewels to your dress.
We’re starting to think someone on their team reads us because we advised the King to moisturize and wear product in his hair and here he is, doing as told. Our power is awesome and frightening and the crown heads of Europe all pay attention to us. No, you shut up.
