We don’t know yet if Colman Domingo’s work in the upcoming film Dead Man’s Wire will be getting awards buzz, but his appearances at the Venice Film Festival so far have us hopeful that we’ll be doing a Colman Domingo-ology post for the third year in a row.
At the Photo Call in Jacquemus

But we tend to assume a star is gunning for awards when they show up to film festival events in really discussable, photogenic outfits. The problem here is that Colman literally always shows up that way. We tend to think that comes down to a combination of true style and the fact that yes, he really is that ambitious and focused on his career to that point that he’s never not gunning for awards consideration. Admittedly, this look is a little on the goofy side. To our eyes, the problem is that it’s a bit overstyled. The mesh slippers are a bit much and the overly zhuzhed top tends to work against the ensemble’s casual vibe. Tucking in the shirt and switching the shoes out for, say, canvas ones, would do a lot.
At the Premiere in Valentino

Well. You may consider our mouths shut. This is the kind of elegant maximalism and queer Black style that remains the absolute best tool in his style arsenal. Nobody’s doing it like this. Most people can’t.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
The morning of February 8, 1977, Anthony G. “Tony” Kiritsis, 44, entered the office of Richard O. Hall, president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and took him hostage with a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun wired with a “dead man’s wire” from the trigger to the Hall’s head. This is the true story of the stand-off that took the world by storm as Tony demanded $5 million, no charges or prosecution, and a personal apology from the Halls for cheating him out of what he was “owed.”
