Cardi B came to the Met Gala in some fabulous upholstery.
We tend to hate burnout velvet and we also tend to hate any fabric that evokes 50-year-old couches, so we should be hating this. But you know? We think we just might love it. As we’ve said a few times now, there are all sorts of ways to interpret a dual theme of tailoring and Black male style. While many attendees took a more literal approach, we appreciate attempts like this, that use the themes as a starting point. We love the exuberance and romanticism. The ruffles look a bit like wilted lettuce, but that’s the only quibble we have. The fit is impeccable and the hair and makeup look stunning. We don’t think the diamonds coordinate all that well with it. Should’ve gone for the gold instead.
