And now for a little something we like to call The Red Carpet Blogger’s Conundrum. It goes like this: The red carpet blogger relies on celebrities making poor style decisions in order to give them something worth posting. But if all the celebrities listened to the red carpet blogger, they would have very little content because just posting pictures of people in nice outfits doesn’t really get the public excited. So the red carpet blogger is thrilled whenever stars fail to take their advice because as long as they keep making style mistakes, the red carpet blogger’s doors may remain open. But the problem is, the red carpet blogger winds up pointing out the same mistakes, over and over, prompting the public to say “Don’t you have anything else to say here?” All of which is a somewhat longwinded way of saying… MILLIE BOBBY BROWN, FOLKS:

So here’s the thing: it remains true that she dresses a little old for her age, has done so for a decade, and opted to make an issue of the criticism while promoting her latest film, The Electric State. But we’re not going to make that point here. For one, there’s nothing particularly mature about the design of the dress, even if it seems equally if not more appropriate for the decades-older Kim Kardashian or J Lo. No, our NEW critique is actually a subset of the “too mature” one: her style sometimes trends toward this kind of dreary joylessness. We don’t mean that she needs to smile more or wear “happy” clothes (whatever that means). Jenna Ortega’s the same age and she manages to wear dark, goth-inspired pieces that actually feel kind of fun and witty. MBB sometimes does this heavy-lidded super-serious Kardashian sort of posing that tends to support that “I’ve still got it” image she inadvertently puts across. All we’re saying is this: She’d do better if she looked to her contemporaries like Jenna or Sabrina Carpenter for style inspiration, rather than the much older women (like Gwyneth Paltrow and Pamela Anderson) she’s clearly emulating. That denim look from last week, while tacky, was a lot more fun than this sort of thing.
