Everyone’s favorite forty-six-year-old twenty-one-year-old Millie Bobby Brown shook off the jeers of her detractors, put on her Nana’s favorite clothes, and headed on out once again for another round of publicity ahead of the premiere of The Electric State.

Two observations about Miss Millie that we’ve held a little close to our chests until now, because they’re both a little mean. The first is that her taste has always leaned toward the flashy and the tacky. Most of these outfits could be worn by someone in her age group and styled to look youthful. Like, Sabrina Carpenter could probably make this work and not come off like Pamela Anderson circa 1994.

So it’s not so much that she dresses older than her age, it’s that she has a fascination for ’90s/early aughts styles (like a lot of Zoomers), but doesn’t do anything to freshen them up. Combined with that blinding dye job, it tends to make her come off like someone from her parents’ generation trying to show that she’s still got it.

The other observation, which is a slightly more volatile one, is that she’s been using the “celebrity claps back” storyline for years now, going to her socials and getting her tens of millions of followers worked up every time someone crosses her. It’s the Selena Gomez move. On the one hand, it’s a good idea for any young woman in the industry to take control of her image. On the other hand, this has become a common publicity ploy for young stars who spend way too much time on social media and have learned how to utilize their followers to control their public storylines. So she goes out in some of the tackiest outfits worn by any non popstar at the moment, gets a ton of publicity for it, and then extends the spotlight even longer by making “How dare you” statements about said tacky outfits. Then she goes out and does it all over again.

Because let’s face it: We’ve all been hearing about Millie Bobby Brown’s style for weeks now, before this film even opens. Mission accomplished. But she still dresses tacky. This is the least tacky thing she’s worn in weeks, but those craft store flowers are not to our liking and this still feels like something J Lo would wear.
