Oscars 2025 Countdown: Mikey Madison-ology

We’re not sure how much awards buzz was surrounding Anora before it premiered, but star Mikey Madison had a somewhat aggressive approach to her red carpetry right from the jump, embodying two distinctly different styles; a theme-dressing approach that had her wearing sexy looks in a strict palette of red, white or black, and pure A-list prestige actress elegance that signaled her rightful place among any potential nominees. It was a smart tactic that allowed her to sell the film and to sell herself as a leading actress who deserved trophies.

That opening paragraph pretty much sums it up completely.

The styles were either extremely demure…

Or they were the total opposite.

We can’t say it made for the most exciting Oscar campaign we ever saw.

But the looks were incredibly consistent.

It’s one of the more impressively well-styled campaigns in recent memory, even if the looks were only occasionally dazzling and memorable.

And while there were one or two minor wobbles along the way…

For the most part, she did really well when she stuck to classic, vaguely retro styles.

If we have any critique of this approach, it’s that it doesn’t really let her sell her own youthfulness. In other words, it’s not a bad idea for a young actress to get a little trendy.

In terms of her own likes, aside from the rigid color story, she seems to have a slight preference for cutouts.

And while we don’t think these posts are always the best way to predict how they’re going to dress on Oscar night (because a campaign is very different from a victory lap), we think one thing is a near-definite.

Whatever it is, it’ll be strapless.

And for her sake, we hope she gets to break out of the Anora color theme and the prestige retro styles. It’s time to start positioning herself as a major star with an eye to the next thing.
