Anora star Mikey Madison took our advice and now we’re not so sure she should have. We said last week that she didn’t have to do the hottie styles to promote her film (acknowledging that she may, in fact, prefer them) and might be better off in her awards campaigning moving to a more “prestige actress” style. Well, she did it. At the British Independent Film Awards, she showed up in a demure vintage Dior and…
We’re afraid we just don’t love it. As much as we tend to talk about sheer dresses being mostly boring, the fact is that most linings look terrible to us, especially if they’re in the matching-the-skin-tone area, which tends to give the wearers Barbie bodies; smooth and featureless. And to our eyes, there’s always an issue when you see the actual sheer parts, because the mismatch is so obvious. This is why, if a dress has to be lined, we’d rather see it lined in black or occasionally white. The style is fine and she looks pretty in it, but the whole thing would be better off either unlined with something interesting worn underneath or lined in black. In related news, the necklace might be a little bit too demure.
