We would like to take this moment to publicly thank Oppenheimer star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Emily Blunt. In a year when the Oscars red carpet fashion took a decidedly low-key if not downright conservative turn, we are thrilled that someone in Hollywood still understands that grand old Oscars tradition of thousands of people asking in unison:

“What the hell was she thinking?” In truth, though we may have worn them many a time in our lives, we cannot tell you what Emily Blunt was thinking when she said “Give me the gown with the Y front man panty outline.” Oh, and the floating straps that make her look like some sort of handbag or pool toy. Let’s not forget those. We have to assume she chose this dress secure in the knowledge that she would not be photographed holding an Oscar while wearing it.As we noted when we wrote up a retrospective of her awards season style, it’s been a little off all year. We’re not sure why that is, but she wound up wearing one of the most talked about dresses of the night, so mission accomplished, we guess.
