In weeks when life fails to deliver unto us a surplus of red carpet looks, we turn as always to the reality talent competitions hostesses. Heidi’s not making the rounds at the moment, so that means American Idol judge Katy Perry gets to be the recipient of our loving judgment. The looks are loud and goofy, somewhat like their wearer.

This is kind of her style sweet spot: a blending of old Hollywood and pure drag. The gloves and the shoes are way too much and the dress, which looks great on her, didn’t need such distracting accessories, but that’s kind of her whole deal.
