We love when someone uses fashion to tell a story about themselves. Dua Lipa’s Grammy weekend style tale was one about overcoming terrible tragedy by triumphing. First, the tragedy:
IN VALENTINO COUTURE AT THE PRE-GRAMMY GALA
Girl, what the ever-living fuck. What is all this? What’s happening here? What’s going on with you? Is this a cry for help? How does anyone NOT appearing on a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float settle on that coat? What forces in your life led you not only to this choice, but to the further decision to add a gigantic, clashy pair of pants to it? Look, we will be the first bitches to loudly defend any female celebrity’s – especially the young pop stars – right to go out in something comfy and modest when she wants to. But honey, that doesn’t mean you have to dress like…well…this.
IN COURRÈGES AT THE GRAMMY AWARDS
Fortunately, she rebounded spectacularly. We’ll repeat the critiques from our Cosmo writeup: It comes off extremely heavy, partially because of the somewhat loose fit and partially because of the too-long sleeves, but mainly because it’s actually heavy. We also think the jewelry is completely wrong for it. That choker deserves a plain-as-hell strapless gown to show it off. But it’s sexy-fabulous and we can’t fault the gal who gave us the biggest disco hit of the year for dressing like an actual disco ball.
