Vanishing Lady: How JFK Jr.’s George Magazine Paid Tribute to Princess Diana
Love Story imagined how JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy reacted to Princess Diana’s death. The new biography The Kennedys and the Windsors reveals what really happened.
The French interior minister announced Princess Diana’s death a little before 5 a.m. local time on August 31, 1997. She and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed had been killed in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. Their driver was intoxicated, and he lost control of the car after paparazzi on motorcycles started pursuing the couple. They slammed first into the tunnel’s center divider, then its right wall. While Dodi and the driver died at the scene of the accident, the princess later succumbed to major chest and lung injuries at Pitié‑ Salpêtrière Hospital. She was 36 years old.

In Amadeus, Will Sharpe Plays a Mozart in Several Registers
Onscreen, Will Sharpe has become especially adept at playing men who seem to exist in several emotional registers at once: charming yet withholding, cerebral yet faintly chaotic. That slippery quality gave his Emmy-nominated performance in the second season of The White Lotus its peculiar magnetism—and what now makes him such an unexpectedly fitting choice to inhabit Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Starz’s lavish new adaptation of Amadeus.
The five-part series, which premiered last week, reimagines Peter Shaffer’s classic play—itself inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s 1830 short drama and later adapted into an Oscar-winning 1984 film—as something moodier, sexier, and more psychologically volatile: a powdered-wig fever dream driven as much by resentment and ambition as by music. Opposite Paul Bettany’s tightly wound Antonio Salieri, Sharpe’s Mozart is less marble-bust icon than an impulsive prodigy buckling under the weight of his own talent. The series follows the composer’s arrival in late-18th-century Vienna and Salieri’s decade-long fixation on him, as admiration curdles into obsession. Tormented by what he sees as the divine ease of Mozart’s genius, Salieri begins to view him as a threat not only to his reputation but to his faith and sense of order.
Banana Beauty Is The Trend Taking Over Every ‘Cool Girl’ Brand—Rhode Started It, Prada Made It Official, And It’s Not Going Anywhere
The banana-powered glow your routine’s been missing.
When Hailey Bieber recently launched her Rhode Caramalized Banana Peptide Lip Treatment, it solidified something I’d been thinking for a while: bananas are IN. And although Rhode’s is the latest (now sold out) product to popularise the familiar yellow fruit, it’s certainly not the first.
In fact, bananas have been making the rounds for longer than we realise. Rhode’s innovation felt somewhat nostalgic, given we’d not long experienced the ‘rebirth’ of banana balms through brands such as Glossier and Prada.
The Japanese Pedicure That Finally Smoothed My Chronically Dry Feet
Bring on sandal season.
Summer is just around the corner, but my feet haven’t quite got the memo. I tend to neglect pedicures during the colder months, and my toes inevitably need a little extra TLC come May.
I find bog-standard pedis rarely cut it here, nor do my trusted balms and salves. So, when I heard about the “Japanese Pedicure”, which uses precise, no-drill, no-blade methods to restore natural nail health, I was intrigued—if slightly sceptical that buffing alone could slough off months of dry skin.

Are skinny jeans still in style?
It’s time to look out your old Joni jeans.
Few items of clothing are considered as Marmite as skinny jeans. For some, they’re viewed as representing a particular era in history — that of indie sleaze, where the tighter the trousers, the cooler you were — with many believing they should be left in the early noughties. For others, they’re as essential to a wardrobe as a lightweight trench coat, mom jean or classic white tee.
Regardless of which side of the debate you fall on, everyone seems to have an opinion on skinny jeans, and for that reason alone, I’d say that makes them an iconic piece of fashion history and pop culture. The big question is, though, whether they can still be considered stylish in the year 2026.
Three new stars have joined The White Lotus season 4’s cast
Another madcap murder mystery is coming our way.
The White Lotus is finally coming back for a fourth season — and this time, we’re gearing up for a glamorous, chic week of madness in France. Production is set to begin next month and, rumour has it, the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez is serving as the main location.
After much online speculation, we finally have some official details about who will star in the upcoming French edition of The White Lotus. And the list is looking très très bien.
Many of the main cast were previously announced — it’s an impressive list that includes the likes of Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Max Greenfield and AJ Mikalka. Helena Bonham-Carter was originally attached to the project but has since been replaced by Laura Dern.
6 best lip liners for mature lips, according to pro makeup artists
The one you’re using probably isn’t cutting it anymore.
The best lip liners for mature lips solve a problem that goes beyond smudging. As the years tick by, the lips become a bit of a rebel. Definition softens, dry lips are a constant, volume diminishes, and suddenly your favourite Pillow Talk Lip Liner is migrating and smudging into fine lines. For mature lips, the strategy isn’t just about spotlighting your pout—it’s about prep. Proper care and lip skin care is the foundation of any natural look says Anetta Reszko, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in NYC.
The Olivia Rodrigo backlash shows that girlhood is an obligation, not a choice
“Women are expected to infantilise themselves at every opportunity, yet feel society’s wrath when they go too far.”
[…] Now, in 2026, Rodrigo is preparing to release her third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, while tickets for her global tour have become near-mythical online. To celebrate surpassing nine billion streams and debut her latest single, Rodrigo performed at Spotify’s Billions Club Live event in Barcelona.
But instead of focusing on the flawless vocals, devastatingly relatable lyrics or the joy radiating across the 21-year-old’s face, much of the internet became fixated on something else entirely: her dress. More specifically, her tiny, hand-embellished babydoll dress. Let’s discuss.
How to remove acrylic nails without damaging your nail bed
An at-home friendly trick.
Never tried to remove acrylic nails before? You’ve come to the right place. While acrylics afford us the ability to add length, switch up designs and even protect our natural nails from knocks and breakage, they also have the ability to leave our nails pretty darn busted if they aren’t removed properly and carefully.
Our advice? Go to a trained professional – they know what they’re doing. But if you must do it from home, it pays to be gentle (and to resist the urge to peel them off).
Meet Kasundi, Bengal’s ‘Queen of Pickles’
Prized for its pungent heat and complex flavor, this Indian mustard condiment is beloved by chefs and home cooks alike.
It’s a gray, rainy afternoon in Kolkata, in eastern India. The city is quieter than usual, thanks to the light drizzle. I’m by the window with a cup of masala chai and a plate of still-hot pakoras, gram flour fritters that are crisp and golden. But neither of those is what I keep reaching for. It’s the small bowl of kasundi on the side — sharp, bright, and impossible to ignore.
Kasundi isn’t just something you dip into. Often called Bengal’s “queen of pickles,” it’s equal parts condiment and cultural legacy.
From Tarot Readings To Energy Healing, 7 Alternative Therapies That Offer Guidance And Connection
In our uncertain times, a new generation of women is increasingly turning to mystical practices and therapies. Medina Azaldin dives into the wellness world’s buzziest trends
It happened to me in the marbled foyer of Claridge’s. While I was waiting for a meeting, a well-heeled woman casually introduced herself as a tarot reader who was fresh from a fashion event in the hotel. Before I could tell her my name, she offered a reading. Truthfully, I’d never really believed in psychics, but I had nothing to lose, so we sat down.
She said my cards held ‘words’ and ‘pens’ in my future, and that the hopeful feeling I had in my gut would soon settle. The week before, I had applied for a promotion. And, not long after meeting her, I was made ELLE’s beauty editor.
David Rooney’s Must-See Cannes Movies
THR’s chief film critic highlights promising competition entries from some of world cinema’s most highly regarded directors.
All of a Sudden
Japan’s Ryusuke Hamaguchi dazzled Cannes in 2021 with his symphonic meditation on grief, regret and human connection, Drive My Car, which went on to receive four Oscar nominations, winning for best international film. His French-language debut casts Virginie Efira as the director of a nursing home in the Paris suburbs, who adopts the compassion-based “Humanitude” treatment method with her patients despite discord among her team. Her life changes when she meets a terminally ill Japanese playwright played by Tao Okamoto. The two women develop a spiritual bond as they fight together to overcome systemic constraints and transform the care facility into a symbol of resistance.
Always Tired? Why ‘Chronic Fatigue’ Is Hitting Young Women Harder Than Ever
It’s not as extreme as burnout, but it can’t be cured with eight hours’ sleep – ELLE explores the rise of exhaustion in increasingly younger women and how to take control of your energy levels.
It’s normal to feel tired or burnt out occasionally. Whether working to a looming deadline, battling a week of disturbed sleep or simply ‘burning the candle at both ends’, modern life is often exhausting. For many, these periods of increased yawns and depleted energy levels, while disruptive, are fairly easy to resolve with a few nights in and a solid eight hours. Yet in recent years, practitioners in the UK are seeing a growing number of young women reporting a new kind of underlying fatigue.
As opposed to burnout, which has recently dominated the ‘exhaustion conversation’ among women, prolonged fatigue is an enduring, low-grade exhaustion that doesn’t resolve with rest and isn’t always directly linked to workload.
How to Eat Like a Local in New York City — a Guide to the Best Restaurants, Culinary-Focused Hotels, and More
Get a taste of the city, from dining at local institutions to experiencing transportive sushi to taking home single origin chocolate made here.
To eat in New York is to experience a city in constant rewrite. Cuisines arrive, evolve, and are refined at a pace few places can match, shaped as much by immigrant histories as by chef ambition. After all, this is the city that never sleeps! The result is a dining culture where tradition and experimentation sit side by side — often on the same block.
New York is defined by certain culinary pillars, ones you might know like pizza, Chinese food, and Jewish delis to name a few. And those foundations continue to expand. Korean cooking — driven by its deeply savory jangs — has surged in recent years, while high-end Japanese sushi has, over the past decade, cemented Manhattan as a global center for transportive dining experiences.

Barry Keoghan on Returning to Cannes, Leaving ‘Peaky Blinders’ and Moving Past Online Abuse: ‘I Want to Have a Smile and Enjoy the Moment’
When Barry Keoghan watches a film that speaks to him, he likes to get in touch with the director to tell them. It’s something he thinks more people in the industry need to do.
“We should share the love and always share what each other’s work has done for us,” he tells Variety. “Because everyone has worked extremely hard to get to where we are.”
As well as helping sharing the love, it’s paid dividends for Keoghan’s career. And it’s led to two of three Cannes visits for the Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner, speaking on a rare day away from the shoot of Sam Mendes’ epic “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” biopics he refuses to say much about aside that they’re “gonna be iconic” and “part of history.” (Sadly, “romantic” as he’d love to make it sound for the benefit of our conversation, he says he’s “not dressed as Ringo”).
The Paul Poiret Effect: How the 1910s King of Fashion Is Shaping the Runway Today
Learn more about the legendary French couturier who left a lasting impact.
There is a mosaic plaque embedded in the pavement of Avenue Montaigne, just outside Dior’s historic headquarters, honoring the couturier who first put that address on the fashion map. Christian Dior once said of him: “Poiret came and changed everything.”
Paul Poiret, Le Magnifique, the self-proclaimed King of Fashion, was the couturier who dismantled the corset at the turn of the 20th century, replacing it with velvet opera coats, drop-waist dresses scattered with beading, tasseled shawls, fur-trimmed wraps, and silk pouches worn as jewels.
6 Things Polite Guests Always Do Before They Leave
Exit like a pro.
There’s an art to being a gracious guest. But the most meaningful gestures are rarely elaborate. It’s the small things you do as you gather your things that often leave a lasting impression.
Being a thoughtful guest is about respecting your host’s space, showing gratitude, and leaving things just a little better than you found them. Here are the understated (yet impactful) things polite guests always do before they leave.
This Small Town Offers a Quiet Side of Lake Tahoe Without Any Crowds—and It’s Home to ‘America’s Most Beautiful Bikeway’
It’s also home to one of Tahoe’s best beaches.
Tucked into Lake Tahoe’s northeastern shore, Incline Village offers serene views and year-round outdoor activities along the second-deepest lake in the United States. Two-thirds of Lake Tahoe sits in California, while only one-third lies in Nevada. Yet the Nevada side provides a more peaceful experience, free from the hustle and bustle of tourist hot spots.
With a population of roughly 9,200 residents, Incline Village has a vibe that’s more mountain retreat than party town. Here, panoramic trails framed by pine trees, scenic drives along Mount Rose Highway, and a quiet charm make Incline Village an ideal base for discovering Tahoe’s secluded corners.
This Idyllic Coastal City Has Become Sweden’s New Capital of Cool—With Michelin-starred Restaurants, Unique Design Shops, and Sky-high Saunas
Let’s not forget licorice ice cream, recycled jeans, and a museum devoted to Volvo automobiles.
I like cool, particularly of the relaxed Scandinavian variety, so I flew from Germany to check out Gothenburg for myself. After gray, graffitied Berlin, I was immediately struck on the shuttle from the airport by the colorful summer vistas out of both windows: purple flowers and green forests and navy lakes. Nature certainly wasn’t shy of announcing its beauty here.
I felt something else immediately: that Gothenburg is a city on the make. It was founded in 1621 as a garrison against the marauding Danes. Early on, it was a fishing town. Later, ships were built there, and goods imported: the interesting Museum of Gothenburg is located in the former headquarters of the Swedish East India Company (who knew?), which flourished in the 18th century and collapsed shortly after the start of the 19th.
