Why Mrs. Cathy. What is all this?

The Prince and Princess of Wales joined King Charles and Queen Camilla this morning at the ceremonial welcome for President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea and First Lady Kim Keon Hee. We are genuinely a little flabbergasted by what the Princess is wearing for the occasion. It’s all one color in that rigidly disciplined way that defines her style, so we know this is really her and not some Kate impersonator. But the silhouette is so… big. So space-taking. So very much not her normal bag.

That cape is the kind of garment we’d look at and say “That would look great on Princess Cathy but she’d never wear a gigantic bow on her bust.” Well shut our mouths, why don’t you, princess? Personally, we’re not fans of giant bows, but it works here because there’s a minimalist quality to the design which makes it feel unfussy. We really like the boldness of the look, since it’s not a quality we see often in her public style, but we really dislike that it’s all one color. And if we’re being quibbly little bitches, as is our way, we think the hat is a bit too much when paired with the cape. Critiques aside, we’re pleasantly surprised to see her doing something vaguely, ever so mildly unexpected with her style.

The First Lady’s all-gray look is very chic, although we’re not convinced on gray tights with black pumps. Beautiful coat, though.
