After giving the spotlight post treatment to quite a few of the attendees (J Lo & Ben, Lupita, Andrew Garfield, Lily Gladstone, Jessica Chastain, Kim Kardashian, Quinta Brunson) it’s time to wrap up our coverage of the 2023 LACMA Art + Film Gala. We thank all of these celebrities for bringing red carpet magic into our lives, but we’re still going to be kind of bitchy about their choices. It was ever thus.
Alexandra Grant (in Schiaparelli) and Keanu Reeves (in Gucci)
They always look so cute together. Twue Wuv. Anyway, that’s the most literal keyhole we’ve seen in ages. We don’t love it.
Billie Eilish in Gucci
It’s fine. It’s whatever. It’s her shtick.
Colman Domingo in Versace
Pure stunning.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Gucci
Can’t say we love the design, which feels overwrought and needs a good deal of editing.
David Oyelowo in Gucci
It’s an interesting take on formal menswear, but these pieces don’t really look like they belong together.
Elliot Page in Gucci
That’s the best – and not coincidentally the most stylish he’s ever looked on a red carpet.
Greta Lee in Gucci
Her hair looks amazing. We’re afraid we hate the dress.
Heidi Klum in Lever Couture
She looks like the world’s tackiest craft project and that strikes us as exactly correct.
Jane Fonda
Simple, but inarguable.
Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst in Gucci
They’re such a cute couple. We’re digging his curls and her swinging ’60s vibe.
Jodie Comer in Gucci
The skirt is kind of interesting, but neither the top nor the sandals do a thing for it.
Jodie Turner-Smith in Gucci
An outfit that pretty much screams “I’M SINGLE ATM.” Can’t deny it’s dramatic and hot, but that top looks like it hurts.
Julia Garner in Gucci
There’s not enough top and too much bottom to this design.
Ke Huy Quan in Gucci
Never looks bad. Always has shoes that look fresh from the box.
Laura Harrier in Saint Laurent
We’re trying to be the nitpicky bitches you want us to be, but we can’t find a thing wrong with this. She looks great. That brown really works for her.
Lee Jung-jae in Gucci
No arguments from us.
Lenny Kravitz in Gucci
Hate us if you must for saying it, but we will repeat our observation that he is a full decade late on refreshing his look.
Lux Pascal and Pedro Pascal (in Gucci)
There’s something kind of adorable about taking your sister to a party while you’re in your pajamas, but we can’t say we love the suit. That color looks great on her, but the dress is kind of mumsy.
Niecy Nash in Solace London
The Queen of Shapewear said “Fuck it,” this time and she wound up looking great.
Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault in Gucci
Mr. and Mrs. Fashion. He looks fine. She looks great, although we think the shift in the sequins happens too abruptly on her dress.
Yara Shahidi in Gucci
We don’t like the top and the beaded fringe on the skirt bugs, but she’s working the hell out of it. Those deep red accessories are perfectly chosen.
