It’s the CMA Awards red carpet, cowboys and cowgirls! The goal here is to be a little flashy, really photogenic, true to the occasion’s country style roots, and lastly, maybe a little stylish. Let’s see how a select group of attendees did, shall we?
Ashley Cooke in Pamella Roland
It’s attention-grabbing and entirely too much, which makes it pretty right for the occasion. It just feels like the styling isn’t up to the dress.
Brian Kelley
We appreciate the color combo and everything looks to be of fairly fine quality. We just wish it were fitted a little better and didn’t look so wrinkled.
Brothers Osborne
Trust the gays to come serving the most country of country drag. Not that the straight side didn’t come correct themselves. What we’re trying to say here is that this is exactly what we most like to see on a country awards red carpet. Go for it, we say. Don’t be generic about it. Which is why we have to be mean and suggest that her gown really isn’t up to the level of the rest of their looks.
Chase Stokes and Kelsea Ballerini (in Christian Siriano)
It’s giving rather basic Barbie, but we can’t suggest she looks bad in it. He looks okay. We like his suit, but the shirt could be more interesting.
Chris Lane
It may be too conventional for our tastes, but he’s looking fine in every sense of the word.
Colbie Caillat
We’d like the gown better without the train, but we appreciate the drama it delivers. It would be better in black. The white shoes bug.
Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
It’s rare to see her take such a relatively restrained approach, but she’s right to let the print do all of the work here. She looks great. We’re not even sure we like the print, but she’s got such a knack for working them.
Emily Ann Roberts
We mean this one hundred percent as a compliment: it’s hideously fun. It looks like something you’d see on a ’60s TV variety show.
Jenna Davis in Marchesa
It’s fine. We’re not mad at it.
Lainey Wilson in Carolina Herrera
LOVELOVELOVE it. Now that’s what we’re talking about. Needs rhinestones, though.
Lindsay Ell in Johnathan Kayne
We appreciate the hair matching, but we’re afraid the dress looks a little cheap.
Little Big Town
This all appears to be (loudly and flashily) in order. The gentlemen are keeping things relatively low-key. The ladies are definitely not.
Kimberly Schlapman in Reem Acra
We would like – but probably not love – the dress without the black straps and if it were styled without the black gloves and heavy black shoes. But serving up a little bit too much at the CMAs isn’t a bad thing.
Karen Fairchild in Reem Acra
It looks like a Day of the Dead dress for Morticia and we can’t help but love it.
Post Malone
He looks surprisingly good in cowboy drag. Granted, this is high-end, impeccable cowboy drag. That bolo tie is epic. A sentence we have never had the chance to write before.
Riley Greene
It’s fine. Not exciting but he looks cute in it.
