The official mourning period following Queen Elizabeth’s death has ended and that means two things: regular royal appearances are returning to the calendar and we get to start using “Princess Cathy” to refer to the Princess of Wales, thereby giving mysteriously and curiously offended Americans a new reason to threaten to report us to Facebook. It’s a win for everyone! The new Prince and Princess of Wales returned to Anglesey, where they lived for a few years after they got married, and stopped by the RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station today to commend them on a job well done and to shore up their support with the locals.

Although it doesn’t necessarily look like they’ll need to do much to drum up support for their new titles among the people of Wales. A new poll showed that 66% of those polled in Wales support Prince William claiming the title. It would appear that very few people want to see a massive investiture ceremony on par with the one Charles enjoyed in 1969, which is kind of a shame, because we really want to see William wearing that absolutely hideous coronet just once. People seem to have embraced Kate as the new Princess of Wales without subjecting her to a lot of grief for “taking” Diana’s title, but then again, her life’s work for the last two decades was building up exactly that kind of public support. As for fashion, there’s little to be discussed here although Kate’s coat is very nice (as they always are) and we bet she’s going to be more or less permanently toting a handbag Elizabeth-style for the rest of her life. The prince is in dire need of a style upgrade to go with his title upgrade.
