Between Rebecca Hall posing with her stars Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga on the Passing promo tour and Maggie posing with Dakota for The Lost Daughter, we’re kinda loving this minor awards season trend of chic directors and ladystars hitting the rounds together.
Maggie Gyllenhaal in Rodarte
We guess we can understand why she wouldn’t want to go out in literal recreations of 1940s gowns, no matter how much the style may suit her. A lady wants to feel current, after all. We’re all for finding fresh twists on classic designs, but we’re afraid that horrific neckline (and we use the word loosely, since it’s more of a midriff/bust/neckline) does absolutely nothing good for an otherwise pretty great dress.
Dakota Johnson in Schiaparelli
Ma’am, you had us until we got to the bottom. It’s a gorgeously simple dress with a cheeky and sexy embellishment and it’s just about perfect for her. She’s the exact right person to wear something minimalist with one glaring twist. Love the ring and the matching mani, but those sandals look inflatable and while we hate to sound this nitpicky, we really think a black pedi would’ve done a lot for the look.
