Golden Globes 2021: “The Crown” Star Gillian Anderson in Dior Couture

If you put Gillian Anderson’s whole 2021 Golden Globes experience in perspective, it can be a pretty illuminating glimpse into how strange celebrities’ lives can be. As she noted to Giuliana Rancic in the pre-show interview, she was “attending” the Globes from a hotel room in Prague, completely alone (except for her dog and a photographer, evidently). Presumably she’s in town because she’s currently filming White Bird, a World War II drama set in Nazi-occupied France, which means it was well past midnight her time when the show started and somewhere past 4 am when she accepted her award. All that time, sitting in a semi-dark hotel room in Prague in the middle of the night in a custom Dior gown, staring at her laptop. Oh, and her ex, with whom she just parted ways in the last few months, was on the same Zoom call because he’s Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown. We feel like she deserved an award for all that alone.

And on top of all that, she had the nerve to go and look stunning the whole time:

The fact that your girl wore a couture Dior gown with a giant skull on the bust is the final cherry on this sundae of dark fabulousness. What a perfect choice for a moment that was triumphant, but had to have been extremely weird for her.

And then she had to get up in the morning and pretend she’s in Nazi France all day. Gillian Anderson, you are this year’s Badass Award winner on top of everything else. Our dark pandemic queen, slaying social distancing like no one else.
