When you’re shallow and you do things like follow red carpet commentary (or worse, make it for a living, God forbid) and you encounter the phrase “Ciara at the ESPYs,” you’re going to have some involuntary expectations. And Miss Ciara, she’s more than happy to fulfill them for you.
Look, if this were the Oscars or the Met Gala, we might sit here and tut-tut the tackiness of her gown, but there’s just no denying that certain testosterone-heavy red carpets like this one or the GQ Man of the Year ones essentially call for a ladystyle that’s … pretty much Ciara’s go-to style. In other words, this is tacky, sure. But she’s on-brand for herself and definitely on-point for the venue. Think of it as serving classic Cher realness.
We are happy to entertain arguments that this dress is not tacky, but for us, the wrinkled satin, plunging neckline and enormous side cutouts do not, in combination, speak to us of chicness and high style. Doesn’t matter. She’s doing it right for her. Still, we’d love to see the wrinkles resolved and we’d have told her to take it further and put on a hugely obnoxious pendant.
He’s looking pretty spectacular, we’ve gotta say. With the brooch and the shades? Killer.
