RED CARPET SHOWDOWN OF THE WEEK: Nicholas Hoult vs. Maluma

Posted on May 03, 2019

PinCOME AND GET YOUR (pretty, pretty) BOYS.

That’s right, darlings. We’ve been neglecting to give you a weekly showdown on a regular basis and this week, we were determined to do so. Except we didn’t find any of the possible lady matchups very interesting. But this was a rare week on the menswear front because we got two very lovely-to-look-at guys working two distinctly different styles.

Lo’s Pick: Nicholas Hoult in Burberry at the “Tolkien” London Premiere

Lo’s Defense: I LOVE the patterned shirt and tie brackets here. There’s such a sharpness to this look. It successfully avoids coming off like a businesswear or too dull for a red carpet. He looks impeccably English here – and the suit sets off his eyes beautifully.

T’s Pick: Mamula in Dsquared2 at the Billboard Music Awards

T’s Defense: I’d certainly never make the attempt to pull something like this off – and to be honest, I think the same should be said of most men. Between the jewelry, the oil-spill finish and the head-to-toe leather, it’s all pretty clearly a look meant for a celebrity. So many guys would look silly trying to pull this off but his looks and his youth do a lot to help him out here. It’s just a perfect look for him and for where he is. Even better, it’s a memorable look that doesn’t lapse into cliche. One of my fave non-traditional menswear looks in some time.

There you have it, darlings! Impeccable traditional vs. adventurously non-traditional? Which one’s it gonna be?
