Sometimes, these “ology” posts offer surprises even to us. We figured we had an easy handle on Song Sung Blue star Kate Hudson’s style during the last year of promo work, but when we compiled it all, we didn’t realize just how insanely consistent she’d been. In fact, she’s so consistent that we don’t think individual commentary for each dress is really called for (you can click on the link above each picture to see what we originally wrote). We’ll sum things up at the bottom, but for now, we present to you Miss Kate Hudson, bona fide Old Hollywood Royalty:
At the AFI Fest Premiere in Roksanda

At the Governors Awards in Valentino

At the London premiere in Stella McCartney

At the Gotham Film Awards in Ralph Lauren

At the New York premiere in Valentino

At the Palm Springs International Film Festival in Georges Chakra

At the Golden Globes in Armani Privé

At the Directors Guild Awards in Erdem

At the Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Lanvin

At the Costume Designers Guild Awards in Valentino

At the BAFTA Film Awards in Prada

At the Actor Awards in Valentino

We knew she was working an Old Hollywood Movie Star look throughout the season, but we didn’t realize just how tightly she was sticking to it until we saw all her dresses together. She has a taste level and set of preferences that doesn’t always lead her down the most chic of paths, and there are several near-disasters in the collection, but we think she’s clearly trading on her own family dynasty and its long association with Hollywood. It’s more formal in style, but it reminds us of Jamie Lee Curtis’s winning approach in 2023, when she followed a very strict “I’m a lifer who grew up in this business” approach to her style. Within this narrow lane, she’s managed to express herself in a broad range of colors and some occasional tips of the hat to her more boho style preferences, but we think it’s pretty clear that she’ll be arriving on Oscar night in some variation of a classic movie star look.
