The stars and director of Wuthering Heights came out for the Los Angeles premiere and we suspect you are not prepared for how goofy the fashion is going to be on this promo tour.

Such a weird trend of guys sporting random cummerbunds without a tie. We appreciate the jaunty little scarf action, but this is really boring. On the other hand, he’s so tall and imposing that he doesn’t have to do much to look dramatic. Okay, brace yourself for Margot:

The former Barbie star seems to be signaling that she will be sticking to the same sort of rigid branding that defined that film’s press tour. In other words, expect a lot of red and black, with a whole lot of dark romance undertones to it. As branding, this gown simply can’t be beat. It’s weird, dramatic, and has all the markers of romance, but with a distinctly fucked-up undertone to it. As a “my dress appears to be falling off me” design, this one is fairly original and interesting. The ombre effect is particularly captivating in its weirdness. And to complete this red carpet stuntery (said with affection), she topped the look off with Elizabeth Taylor’s famous “Taj Mahal” necklace, given to her by Richard Burton on her 40th birthday. We realize that the film’s overly romantic marketing has seemed like a mistake by the filmmakers, we think this outfit — including the very pointed jewelry choice — indicates that they know exactly how fucked up this romance is.

This is hilariously insane. We love it, but we don’t actually like it, if that makes any sense. In other words, we love the exuberance, the humor, and the willingness to be weird. We don’t, however, like the shape of it or the overdesigned back. But we smiled when we saw it and we presume that to be the intent behind it.

This is sharply interesting. We like the red trim, but we’re not crazy about the goofy peplum hem.

It’s a gorgeous coat and it’s clearly doing all of the work here, which is why the too-long cuffs bug us. Proportionally, we also think the bottom hem could come up a few inches. After several years of complaining about the dainty doll feet shoes guys were wearing, we’re not in a period of over-correction where they’re all clomping out onto the red carpet in their Frankenstein feet.

It’s exactly the kind of insanely grandiose, mildly fucked-up fashion she was meant to wear. The bodice is genuinely beautiful on her, but the skirt is totally bizarre — in a good way, in our opinion. There’s a certain sort of darkly romantic quality to it that suits the occasion.

It looks like it would be annoying to wear, but the color story is genuinely interesting and the design kind of forces you to look at it to take it all in. We’re not super-crazy about the cat ear bustline, but what we’d really like to change is the hem length. This should go to the floor. Also, that bow is wildly out of proportion and should be reduced by about 30%.
