Queen Max had a busy couple of days in which she wore her typically sassy and questionably styled ensembles.

The dress is kind of cute, but looks extremely dated and — we have to stand on our truth here — totally off-the-rack. Off-the-sales-rack. It’s possible this could be saved with some fresh styling, but hilariously, that’s not what’s on offer here. Obviously the pearls are appropriate for a Queen, but they look a bit out of proportion and they do nothing to mitigate the mumsy effect. The shoes are tacky and the hat absolutely does not go at all. Like, that hat is so far from “going” that we have to question if she even understands the concept of going. It’s kind of an ugly hat, to boot.

We can nitpick a few things here — the puckering at the hem, the questionable shoe and bag color — but this is lovely and it’s pretty much how you’d expect a modern queen to dress for an occasion like this. We still don’t love the way she uses brooches as decorative buckles. Her hair, on the other hand, looks fantastic. The Princess’s dress is also gorgeous. They’re big on the matching gloves in this family. Both of their coats are stunners. The King always looks like he was just woken from a nap.
