Cathy and Willy Wales took their three children Rex, Belle, and Trouble to the observation of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The kids were cute, the Prince looked charming, and Cathy once again did her duty with little muss or fuss.
There’s not much to discuss here from a fashion perspective and that is, of course, entirely appropriate. It’s a gorgeous coat in a great color and we have no doubt she’s worn it a dozen times before. What’s of minor interest here is that she didn’t try to match up the whole family. The kids are all dressed in military blues (which also feels entirely appropriate), but she’s making a play to stand out from them. We doubt there’s any significance to it, of course; just as there’s probably no significance to the development of her wearing a contrasting color of shoe instead of matching it to the rest of her outfit, but we’re going to treat the latter point as if its seismic. Fifteen years of begging her not to match her shoes to her coat have finally paid off. In slightly related news, while we can’t say we love the occasionally overwrought royal fascinators, we think the pillbox hat is a fashion dead end. It will never look fresh or new again.
