Darlings, we were pleasantly surprised by the onslaught of red carpetry that greeted us post-holiday weekend; an affirmation, we think, of our prediction that promotional events for celebrities are on a decided upswing post strike and several years post lockdown. Everyone’s out and jockeying for attention in their borrowed finest. We thank the content goddesses for these blessings, but we’re also tired, so we’re closing out the day by turning this one entirely over to y’all. Kerry Washington took a classically glamorous approach to the premiere of her film The Six Triple Eight.

Okay, so. This is undeniably pretty. Crystal embellishments could come off heavy or overdone (they have in similar Prada looks recently), something about this feels light and unfussy, even though it clearly isn’t. We can’t say we love that pale pink for her, but as we said, she’s clearly going for an old school sort of feel without tipping into cosplay. But we don’t love the high neckline or those little cap sleeves – at all. They may just ruin the look for us. Also, while a dress with this much sparkle doesn’t need the help, it seems to us like she could use more jewelry. Her hair looks cute, but it doesn’t seem to go with the style of the dress. We’d have rather she worn it up, we think. Before we turn over the final call to y’all, we’ll note that whenever we do one of these “We’re too tired, you guys do it” posts, we always wind up writing more than if we’d just kept all the opinionating to ourselves. Anyway, let’s hear it. Are we being too nitpicky? Or is she giving goddess? Put another way…

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers. Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Produced by Tyler Perry, Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig and Carlota Espinosa, the film features an ensemble cast including Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Susan Sarandon, with Dean Norris, and Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey. Based on the article by Kevin M. Hymel, the film features an original song “The Journey” written by Diane Warren and performed by H.E.R., with choreography by Debbie Allen.
