Daisy Ridley is at the Deauville American Film Festival to receive her Hollywood Rising Star award, which feels like it’s about eight years late. Still! Who are we to complain about a movie star attending premieres and photo calls, right?

This is a nice little frock but we would have never recommended it for a day time photo call. It’s so background-specific in its needs because the minimalism and neutral color need some sort of contrast to help it pop in pictures. It’s a sharp design, if a little basic. We might have recommended a more interesting pair of shoes, but that risks drawing the eye down. Still, we tend to think black, or even better, brown pumps would do the job here.

Evidently she went to the folks at Prada and said, “Listen, don’t screw this up for me. I want standard styles and unfussy designs from you lot.” This is pretty. It’s not the most memorable gown in the world, but for occasions like this, a star wants to appear effortlessly glamorous and not remotely tryhard. Having said that, we think she needs a rethink on that makeup.
