And they’re off! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – Harry and Megs around these parts – kicked off another pseudo-royal tour as they met with Vice-President Francia Márquez in Bogotá and later attended a performance at the National Center for the Arts. It’ll be interesting to see if they can avoid some of the criticisms that followed their Nigerian trip. It’s less likely that Meghan will be criticized for not dressing demurely in this environment, but there’s always the risk that the tone of the trip will skew a little too royal, which tends to set the royal press off. We are happy to report, however, that her first two looks of the trip are some of the best she’s worn in a long time.
Why, Mrs. Sussex. You’ve outdone yourself. This chic little getup may just be one of our favorite looks of hers. It’s simple and unfussy in that way she tends to prefer, but it’s also well-fitted, which is not something we can always say about her fashion. Love that she kept the accessorizing to a minimum, although that’s nothing new for her. It works in this case because the suit has just enough interest on its own and doesn’t really call for extravagant touches. It’s vaguely businesslike but picture-ready and cute. The oddly mismatched button is distracting, though.
PRINT! COLOR (albeit muted)! This looks really great on her. She’s still a duchess who loves herself a little belly cutout, but we can’t imagine anyone would seriously have an issue with it. We don’t like center slits on skirts in any instance, but it makes for a poor choice in this one because the skirt is stiff and she knew she’d be sitting in front of crowds and cameras. Still, it doesn’t appear to be too much of an issue for her. For those who keep score about these sorts of things, in the interest of fairness we should mention that we offered some mild criticism of Princess Catherine for wearing wild prints on their awkwardly staged Caribbean tour, largely because she avoids them so strenuously at home and it gave the impression that she was treating the tour like a vacation. But Meghan has been wearing prints on most of her tours going back to her official ones as a working royal and this one has far less of a “drinking Margaritas on vacation” feel to it than Cathy’s dress.
