Max just isn’t a sporty kind of gal. Queen Máxima kicked off the program known as De Onzichtbare Blessure (The Invisible Injury), which focuses on mental health issues in organized sports. We think it’s fair to say she struggled with the question of how to dress for the occasion.

One thing to keep in mind about her is that her career and educational background are all about matters of high finance. She’s a Big Money girl and like a lot of Big Money people, she doesn’t have much of a facility for dressing casually. She can put together an eye-popping outfit for when things are more formal, but this sort of engagement has her making some unusually drab and ill-considered choices. The pants are fine, but they’re kind of a big nothing. The shoes don’t really work for this setting. And the top is a horror show of a design, with its cuffless sleeves and gathered neckline. We guess jeans and sneakers were out, but they’d have made so much more sense.
