Queen of the Moment Taylor Swift arrived at the 2024 Grammys in high style, sporting what might be one of her best-ever red carpet looks. We were pretty complimentary in our Cosmo writeup, but in the light of day, we feel like being a little mean. Oh, calm yourselves. She can handle it.

Everything we said last night still applies. It’s classic, it’s elegant, it speaks of maturity, confidence and glamour. It’s exactly the look she should be wearing at this moment, when all of the world seems obsessed with her. But here’s the thing: it’s also incredibly basic. As we said in our Cosmo writeup, there’s something to be said for taking a classic style and making it look like you invented it, but it’s kind of amazing to us that she managed to talk the house of Schiaparelli into making her a standard Vivienne Westwood gown. If you’re going to choose Schiaparelli, why would you want them to tamp all the way down on the surrealist aesthetic that defines the brand? It’s styled well enough, but those shoes are just about the least interesting choice to make (we’re thinking like a silver stiletto ballet sandal with the lacing halfway up her leg) and she’s cliff-hanging right off the edge of them. The watch choker is interesting, but it feels like the approach to picking jewelry was pretty random. We know that’s her signature color, but the red lip looks a little garish with it. But the main issue with this look, which is very pretty and glamorous even with our nitpickery, is that awful hairstyle. It’s trying to do way too many things at the same time.
