Part ONE is here. Let’s wrap this up, shall we?
Ariana DeBose in Monique Lhuillier
Meh. The dress shirt tucked into a ballgown skirt works better when they’re not the same color, which tends to make them look like a sloppy dress instead of separates. Could’ve used a belt here.
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor
This is pure fabulous, although we wish her arms weren’t so obscured.
Cailee Spaeny in Miu Miu
It’s pretty but the styling is too low-key. Since she seems to be a gal who likes herself a clean face and simple hair, we’d suggest she pick gowns that don’t practically scream for the opposite mode of styling.
David Oyelowo in Zegna
He never fails to make interesting choices, but we always feel like he could use an edit here or there. For instance, we suspect this ensemble would work better with a different shirt and/or tie color and with a more formal-looking pair of dress shoes.
Dominic Sessa in Saint Laurent
He’s perfect for Saint Laurent. They should give him a contract. We don’t think the color of the shirt flatters his skin tone, however. He looks yellow.
Gael García Bernal in Dolce & Gabbana
Can’t argue with that. He’s graying nicely.
Glenn Close in Christian Dior
Spectacular. While we’d have liked the gown to have a little more detail so she doesn’t look like she’ about to be baptized, the hair is amazing and the overall look is high impact.
Lenny Kravitz in Rick Owens
We tend to think most Rick Owens designs aren’t great for red carpets, which practically require more easily palatable forms of fashion, but he’s well suited to it. It’s not that we love the look so much as we appreciate that, for once, it’s not something we’ve seen him wear a thousand times before.
Niecy Nash in Christian Siriano
She looks great and the fit is fitting, as per usual with her, but we can’t say we’re loving that flimsy cape, which comes off like an afterthought.
Rosamund Pike in Erdem
It’s okay, but the silhouette is a little strange. We like her better when she gets her fashion freak on.
Seth Rogen in Giuliva Heritage
The jacket and pants are too long on him. The super-lapels are fun, but we’re pretty sure they’d look a lot better with the jacket buttoned.
Sterling K. Brown
Also quite inarguable.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (in Jenny Packham)
Mom and Dad Hollywood are always correct.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Christopher John Rogers
Since the mismatched blacks have more of a deliberate feel to them, we don’t mind them so much. She looks great.
Willem Dafoe
Moisturized and thriving.
