Plus all of Tom’s baking and cooking tips, from how to make the best turkey gravy and cornbread stuffing to all of the little variations he’s made on the various recipes he’ll be baking over the next few days. We urge you to follow us on Instagram this season, because we’ll be posting tutorials, decorations and recipes, but since Tom promised he’d post the appeltaart recipe he’s making for tomorrow, here it is:

2 ¼ c all purpose flour
½ cup brown sugar
1 ¾ sticks butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1/8 cup cold water

Pulse butter and dry ingredients in food processor, add egg, water and extract, pulse to combine. Wrap and refrigerate for one hour.

6 large or 8-10 small tart apples (Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith) peeled and sliced
½ cup sugar
2 ½ tsp cornstarch
2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp cloves
¼ tsp each of nutmeg, allspice, cardamom, ginger
½ cup raisins soaked in water or rum for 30 minutes and drained
2 tpsb lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 tpsb breadcrumbs

Toss apples with sugar, dry ingredients, lemon juice and extract. Grease a 10 inch springform pan, press 2/3 dough into bottom and up sides, sealing any seams or cracks. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on bottom of pan. Add filling. Use remaining dough to make lattice top, brush with egg, bake in 350 oven for 70-80 minutes. Easy-peasy!

PLUS: why we can’t put our epic playlist on Spotify to how you can do all of this on the cheap if you want to. Thank you for listening and happy holidays, kittens!
