There’s nothing tackier than an amfAR Gala red carpet – and we say that with affection and appreciation. It’s always fun to cover these things because the gowns are usually wildly overdone and the lighting is always terrible, which makes everyone come off like they’re in the middle of a coke binge. Let’s judge!
Bella Thorne in Vintage Dior
Surprisingly underwhelming look – for her and for Dior. The styling could’ve done some work to elevate this, but it’s just not up to the task.
Camila Mendes in Miu Miu
We really hate those black straps. They ruin the design.
Kate Beckinsale in Georges Chakra Couture
This queen is in all her tacky glory. If Kate Beckinsale can’t wear ten pounds of Christmas tinsel and flash some boob at an amfAR Gala, then what is the point of having one?
Luke Evans in Ferragamo
That will do nicely.
Michelle Rodriguez in Alberta Ferretti
Enh. We realize that the whole clean look is kind of her deal, and we never want to tell a woman she needs to wear more makeup, but if you’re not the slap-happy type, maybe the glittery, diaphanous, neutral-colored gowns aren’t the best choice for you. Also, this design is weird.
Milla Jovovich in Prada
The gown is overworked and her hair and makeup are kind of a mess.
Rita Ora in Stéphane Rolland Couture
The design is trying to do too much. While we can appreciate that sort of Georgia O’Keefe-esque flounce, the “nude” bodysuit looks so dumb that it detracts from the rest of the design. Why is there a glittery belt UNDER the sheer part?
