Let’s check in on Margot Robbie, shall we? What’s she been doing with herself lately, we wonder?

As you may have heard, she is starring in the upcoming Barbie movie. If you’re reading this, you also know that she has been utterly slaying the promotional fashion leading up to the film’s premiere. Even though she’s doing that thing we tend not to love – dressing in character on the red carpet – we have to salute her efforts for two reasons. The first, as we mentioned before, is that Barbie is the one intellectual property figure that more or less demands that you dress up as her if you’re promoting your movie about her. She’s not Batman, after all. She is one of the most iconic fashion figures of the last century, like it or not. Any star carrying her mantle practically has a responsibility to her generations of fans to get out there in so much pink that there isn’t any left over for gender reveal parties. So we have to – not even begrudgingly! – admit that we’re extremely impressed by her commitment. The other reason we have to salute her efforts?

They are quite simply unimpeachable. What could two bitchy red carpet bloggers such as we possibly have to criticize about this? That giant glittered mobile phone? Please. It’s beyond reproach. We’d almost say it’s beyond fashion, but she actually got Versace to make this for her. If you haven’t caught the reference, this is a flawless recreation of “Day to Night Barbie.” And yes, she changed into the “night” look:

We suppose in a way this really is beyond fashion, because we might have had some quibbles about matchiness or proportions if we considered this anything other than a promotional costume. Having said that, we think there’s a subtle and powerful message in all of these getups about how the Barbie aesthetic is far more influential in the world of fashion than many might otherwise assume. If you’re a fashion designer under 60, you grew up in a world where Barbie was the dominant image of the fashionable woman.

And just to round things out, here are some of the other Barbie-inspired ensembles she’s worn while jetting about this week:

We just love that she’s using such high-end brands like Gucci, Moschino and Versace to make her point that Barbie is EVERYWHERE..
